The rundown
If you want to make the jump from flat water to the ocean, this is the place to do it. The sand at Jetty Park is hard-packed and shallow, which keeps the waves small and uniform instead of steep and dumping. You can stand up 150 feet from the beach. The jetty knocks down the swell on its side, so there’s a semi-flat zone for anyone not ready for surf at all.
On a northeast with an east component, it’s about as clean as ocean riding gets around here. Straight east is rideable but steps up the difficulty — the waves get more organized and the shorebreak gets more insistent, so that’s an intermediate day.
The catch is logistics. It’s a paid park with a day pass, and on a sunny windy weekend it’s genuinely crowded — swimmers, fishermen off the jetty, families, and campers. Book the pass online, get there early, and set up well away from the crowd.
Who it's for
Beginners: One of the best beginner-friendly ocean spots in Florida on a small, side-on day.
Intermediate: Solid all-round sessions and a good place to start riding waves.
Advanced: Fun but small — you’ll want Cherie Down or Sebastian on a big day.
Hazards
- Stay off the jetty. Ride downwind of it, always.
- Fishermen have lines in the water off the jetty and the pier
- Swimmers and beachgoers have right of way, no exceptions
- Rip currents near the inlet
- Ship traffic — this is a working port. Do not ride toward the channel.
- Weekend crowds. Weekday sessions are a different park entirely.
